The led light brought my eyes to the delicacy before me and as I picked up the box, the shop owner told me the box contained an Indian sweet delicacy called Soan Papdi. I was puzzled initially as how can a dessert be “Sugarless” as it had stated in the wrapper? Well apparently this version of Soan Padpi is made from low calorie sweetener alternative made with fructo-oligo-saccharide and sucrolose and although it tastes like sugar but does not have the calories of sugar. Interesting right? Apparently it is also safe for diabetes patients. Wow.. I am enticed for sure. After all, dessert without the sin.. Awesome.
I bought a pack and brought home to share with mommy (this was in Singapore) and you know what? We both loved it so much that I bought another one to bring back home to KL! lol!
Soan Papdi’s are made of, according to the pack, Palmolein oil, Bengal Gram Flour, Wheat Flour, Almonds, Cardamon and Pistachio. It is sweet with a hint of spiciness (which I love). I am trying to see if I can find the same pack here in KL and how much it will cost. Otherwise I guess I’ll just stock up the next time I’m back in Singapore :)
Cheerio…
