The search is on for the The Next Iron Chef premiering Sunday, October 30th at 9pm ET/PT on the Food Network Channel. Hosted by Alton Brown and shot in Los Angeles and New York, the show set the stage for ten chefs to compete with one another for the Ultimate Culinary Title of the Iron Chef.
The ten contestants are: Anne Burrell (Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, Worst Cooks in America); Michael Chiarello (Bottega Restaurant, Napa Valley, Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello), Elizabeth Falkner (Citizen Cake, San Francisco, Iron Chef America – challenger); Alex Guarnaschelli (Butter, The Darby, New York, Alex’s Day Off, Chopped); Chuck Hughes (Garde Manger, Montreal, Chuck’s Day Off); Robert Irvine (Robert Irvine’s eat!, Hilton Head Island, Restaurant Impossible); Beau MacMillan (Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain, Phoenix, Iron Chef America – challenger); Spike Mendelsohn (Good Stuff Eatery, Washington D.C., Iron Chef America – challenger); Marcus Samuelsson (Red Rooster Harlem, New York, 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, Chopped) and Geoffrey Zakarian (The National, The Lambs Club, New York, 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, Chopped).
This season features a tedious Chairman’s Challenge and a new challenge called the Secret Ingredient Showdown, that will determine who gets eliminated. Two chefs at the bottom of the pack will go against each other in a sudden-death cook-off with only one ingredient. In the first episode, the contestants are sent by host, Alton Brown, to the middle of nowhere and pairs them into teams, with just two primal elements in their wilderness kitchens – heat and meat. Upcoming episodes includes a ballpark food to Iron Chef-worthy cuisine challenge at Petco Park, a battle to create a dish that represents ‘New York on a plate’ at Grand Central Station and a spectacular Hamptons seafood event for an elite audience.
Judges for this season include the Original Next Iron Chef Michael Symon, esteemed food journalist Simon Majumdar and UK Iron Chef Judy Joo.
I wonder if our local channels will pick this series up. Sounds like a fun show to watch!
